I have been trying to come up with new content for the blog as well as content for the store, but I think I have been too focused on Pokemon GO to get really into it. The game is nothing but non-stop events lately, which is great, but time-consuming.
I did, however, spend some time recently making miniatures. I used to have a dollhouse I built awhile back and worked on it a lot to create my own little world (lol). Anyway, I have been watching a ton of videos on Facebook where people are making miniature rooms out of foam board and cardboard. I decided to give it a try with a few things I had laying around an some foam board I got from Dollar Tree.
I like making kitchens, mainly because they are the heart of the home, but also because you can really get creative with the design and layout. I haven’t made any miniature rooms in awhile so I was a bit rusty on how things should fit together or cut something here instead or there, you know the basics. I usually do all my rooms out of wood, so this was a new experience for me.
So here is the final kitchen:
Some of my cuts were a little off and going forward I need to use tweezers to place things in tight spaces. It took me two days to make. I decided on a more modern look with the french door refrigerator and slide in stove. The floor space should have been bigger, but I didn’t plan on having an island in the beginning. The food you see on the island is polymer clay food that I made for the other dollhouse, before I took it apart. Overall, I really liked making the kitchen and foam board is super easy to work with (as long as your cutting tool is sharp).
I will probably do I few videos on how make things out of foam board and card board once I get a better grasp on it. I am working on a bathroom now – it is not done yet and I will post the finished one soon. The bathroom is using dollhouse furniture I had left over from the other dollhouse, so I basically am combining existing miniatures into a new foam board space.
Here is what I have so far on the bathroom:
